About Executive Coaching
Executive Coaching is a targeted leadership development tool that Surge uses to support select alumni who are positioned to deepen their impact in their organizations, communities, or the broader education field.
Coaching provides focused individual development to help alumni navigate leadership challenges, build critical skills, and overcome roadblocks that may be limiting their ability to advance their work. While coaching centers the individual, its purpose is ultimately connected to a larger goal: helping Surge alumni strengthen their capacity to influence and create meaningful change in education.
Executive Coaching Requests
Executive Coaching Requests
Each year, alumni can submit a request for up to five (5) executive coaching sessions with a Surge-approved executive coach. Executive coaching may support alumni to:
Navigate leadership challenges that are limiting their ability to lead, influence, or advance their work.
Strengthen executive skills such as managing up, influencing others, navigating complexity, and leading through transition.
Navigate career transitions or expanded leadership roles in ways that position them for greater influence within their organizations and the field.
Move an initiative or freedom dream forward by addressing individual leadership barriers that may be slowing progress.
Build the confidence, clarity, and capacity needed to pursue opportunities for broader community or systems-level impact.
Because coaching is a limited resource, Surge prioritizes alumni whose development needs and current leadership opportunities demonstrate a clear connection to their potential for greater impact.

Selected alumni should be prepared to:
Establishing goals for professional development and reflecting on those goals
Preparing for sessions
Establishing a focus for sessions ahead of time
Being fully present and engaged during sessions
Maintaining a regular schedule for coaching sessions
Being proactive about cancellations/rescheduling
